PHILIPS [AMS: PHIA] has been recognized by Healthcare Tech Outlook Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top 10 AI Powered Healthcare Solution Companies in Europe - 2021,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. Frans van Houten, CEO, PHILIPS [AMS: PHIA]If there’s one company that can be genuinely credited for advancing AI in healthcare in these unprecedented times, it’s Philips. The Netherlands-based company is breaking barriers, working in partnerships with health systems to help drive innovation in healthcare like never before. In a value-driven era, Philips is singularly focused on leveraging the latest technologies to support financial and operational goals and enable transformation in healthcare organisations. The result is sheer operational excellence, along with, more connected, predictive and personalised care delivery. In an ambitious bid to bring the benefits of AI and machine learning and optimise the potential of these technologies, Philips is fostering public-private collaboration on a European level.
Frans van Houten, CEO, Royal Philips, says, “When you look at the world right now, there are several challenges that we face. It is my strong conviction that we can tackle those with innovation, but only if we collaborate. In the world, we depend on one another, something that has again been demonstrated by the COVID pandemic. If we inspire each other and raise the bar on what we expect from one another, we can do so much. At Philips we always innovate together with our customers; inviting them to the table gives innovation so much more impact.”
Empowering Healthcare with Intelligent Solutions
At the core of these efforts, Philips is enabling healthcare professionals to harness AI’s power to improve people’s lives across the health continuum: from home care to diagnosis, treatment, and healthy living and prevention. The company stands on the belief that applying AI to healthcare requires more than the technology itself. This is where Philips brings in its in-depth industry expertise, a deep understanding of people’s lives, and the clinical and operational context healthcare providers operate. Combining this unmatched expertise and relevant human domain knowledge and AI is the only way to maximise benefits.
To accelerate AI transformation, the company has powerful AI-enabled products like Ingenia Ambition X 1.5T MR with BlueSeal Magnet, VitalEye, SmartExam, MRCAT, EPIQ CVx, and CVxi with 3D Auto RV, EchoNavigator, IntelliSpace Discovery, IntelliSpace Portal, IntelliSpace Cognition, IntelliSpace Precision Medicine, IntelliSpace AI Workflow Suite, and more.
These solutions are focused on diagnosis and treatment while helping users with operational efficiency and performance, clinical decision support, population health management, and ultimately improving patient care.![]()
The company’s 130th anniversary is a celebration of the continuous innovation journey that has enabled Philips to positively impact the lives of so many people around the globe
The IntelliSpace AI Workflow Suite platform orchestrates and transfers data between devices and AI applications. It hosts and enables multiple AI applications on a single platform in the clinical health care facility environment. Imaging, clinical and administrative data from the clinical environment hospital health systems (such as PACS, HIS, RIS, modalities, or other devices/sources) is made available for AI applications. Results/outputs of the AI applications can be reviewed and routed to predefined devices. Philips’ IntelliSpace AI Workflow Suite has been designed to integrate into the existing department and hospital infrastructure. The solution automatically orchestrates the routing of clinical data to the relevant AI application within the healthcare provider’s ecosystem. This allows healthcare providers to access data analysis without user interaction and displays the results. These results also help them select patients requiring one or AI-enable applications and review AI application results in a detailed view, accept or reject the results and provide text feedback. Overall, clinicians remain in control of and responsible for interpretation and diagnosis.
From a connected care perspective, Philips equips both healthcare companies and patients with AI-enabled products like eCare Manager, IntelliVue Guardian Software, Philips Cares predictive analytics, SmartSleep Deep Sleep Headband, SmartSleep Snoring Relief Band, and DreamMapper. The company has also thoughtfully devised Airfryer XXL Smart, Smart Shaver Series 7000 and 9000, Philips Sonicare Prestige 9900, and PerfectCare 9000 series steam generator iron for personal health needs.
Philips’ innovations spanning the health continuum from healthy living and disease prevention to diagnosis, treatment, and care in the home look promising. In addition, the company’s ability to create an ecosystem of devices, systems, software, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced analytics to develop intelligent solutions has been instrumental in driving healthy lifestyles and supporting healthcare providers. Philips spends 1.8 billion annually on R&D to fuel the company’s growth and intellectual property, which comprises approximately 59,000 patent rights and 31,000 trademarks.
Celebrating 130 years of innovation, collaboration, and social responsibility, Philips has preserved its rich legacy and history of innovation by continuously reinventing itself to remain societally relevant, culminating in leading position in the industry today. This innovative streak aims to improve the lives of 2.5 billion people a year by 2030. The company will continue working closely with innovators, experts, and society to help develop ground-breaking solutions for transforming healthcare globally. “The company’s 130th anniversary is a celebration of the continuous innovation journey that has enabled Philips to positively impact the lives of so many people around the globe,” says Houten. “It’s also about looking forward – continuing to innovate, collaborate and live up to the highest standards of doing business responsibly and sustainably. We will continue to team up with innovators, experts and society to help create new ground-breaking solutions to today’s healthcare challenges.”
Philips believes that AI will be embedded in all innovations in the days to come. However, the only concern stems from enabling the use of data to protect the privacy and security of patients. Philips looks forward to addressing the issue that stands in the way of the progress of innovation.
